Multi Wavelength at The Royal Observatory
The majority of light emitted by stars and planets is invisible to the human eye. Luckily, the new Multi Wavelength exhibit at The Royal Observatory lets you see these invisible waves for yourself.
The new exhibit uses stunning imagery taken from telescopes around the world – including NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope. By turning a dial in front of you, you can move along the spectrum to view the different emissions of stars and planets. Touch sensitive panels let you choose from four different space objects.
See the gamma rays of Saturn
The tactile interface lets you see Saturn, the Milky Way, the Crab Nebula and the Sun in every kind of emission from radio waves to gamma rays. By dynamically blending high resolution images, HMC Interactive created a seamless transition from one image to the next.
HMC Interactive used their expertise to create software that could communicate with the physical interface and output to a high resolution plasma screen, while London agency Newangle took the creative lead including the creation and sourcing of graphics and information.
The result is a beautiful interactive that shows you stars and planets as you’ve never seen them before.
